I was coming to the end of my current journal, realizing I need to begin a new one. In the back of my journals I have a collection of papers that contain poems, prayers, readings, and inspirations that I refer to from time to time. I consider them some of my most cherished companions on the journey. While deciding which pages to keep and which to file away, those I would file felt like losing a friend. This activity caused me to think about who or what companions me on the journey to likeness in Christ. Remembering is another way to think of this process......
Accompanying these turbulent and uncertain times in our world is an increasing spiritual interest and awareness in the hearts of women and men. Now more than ever spiritual midwives are needed to serve as companions to those who are ready to embark on the inner journey. CFDM Central California is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for our first two year training in spiritual direction beginning February 2018....
The Lord Be with You: In the beginning, darkness covered the face of the deep. Then the rushing-breath of life Hovered over the waters. Let us breathe together. Let us catch our breaths From the need to make, to do. Let us be conscious of the Breath of Life. We breathe out what the trees......
Divine Love, the heart of hearts, Abound in every grain of being, From atoms gleam to starry sky, From darkest pain to brightest joy Unceasing love kindles life – A royal promise sealed with the kiss of peace. Saint Hildegard of Bingen 12th Century Sit in silence-experiencing God who is present. Shift to the experience......
This poem from Psalm 139 employs the enneagram to paint a picture of God's motivations toward us....
During this time of making a Lenten Journey, I have heard Jesus ask me “Do you love me?’ He has asked me this with a gaze into my eyes that has spoken of his love for me. I do know I am loved; I have lived into this reality for a while now. I sense a new invitation in his question. Brennan Manning has said in a short clip of a speech, that he believes Jesus will ask us one question and one questions only: “Do you believe that I love you? And the faithful will respond, Yes Jesus, I believe it and I have ordered my whole life around it.”...
As I write this blog post, I have no Internet service. It is an odd and somewhat discomforting feeling in this day and age to be without what I perceive is my connection to the world, my friends and family. Most of what I have needed to do over the last 24 hours, has in some way involved using the Internet and so I continue to bump up against – oh, I can’t do that now. And honestly nothing has imploded! My day is much the same – I have my basic needs met, I can call friends and family and the work that felt so weighty in its pressure of getting accomplished, is in all honesty not that important in the grand design of things....
I am a grammy! Two times! One precious grandchild is 3000 miles away, and one currently lives about three doors down from my bedroom door. I am over-the-top blessed for many reasons, but I especially love having a grandchild so close. So little Oliver and I are pretty good buds. He especially loves laying on his changing table getting his diaper changed. Whatever. If he’s fussy, all I need do is lay him on his changing table and 90% of the time he begins to calm down, smile, gurgle, and, of late, chatter. Oliver spits, and gurgles and chatters and coos and is beginning to laugh …….. figuring out how his voice works, how it sounds and creating his new language skills. And guess what I do? I gurgle, chatter, coo and smile right back at him. (I try to avoid the spitting part.) He and I were having this little exchange the other day and, again, God helped me to notice something about, yes, spiritual direction....
I know winter is (supposed to be?) a time of dormancy and hunkering down to quiet evenings around a fire, a good book and hot cocoa, etc., but at my house it’s been full speed ahead! There has been very little space. There are several reasons for this, but part of my spacial challenge is......
  • Enneagram Post understanding 9 types ian cron valley spiritual direction
The Enneagram is an ancient tool that has experienced a resurgence in popularity and use in Christianity in the past several decades. It is a nine-type system of understanding personality, looking at motivation for behavior as the primary way to understand which type you are.
